Dr. Gill frequently uses BOTOX® in other areas considered to be “off label” to aid in slimming the jawline, softening the lip lines, relaxing the neck muscles, diminishing the “gummy smile” and smooth to the “bunny lines” on the nose. You can inquire about other “off label” areas.

PRE BOTOX(R) / DYSPORT(R)

Two to 3 days prior to your Botox®/Dysport® treatment try to avoid taking any blood thinning medications or supplements (you may need to speak to your PCP if you are on consistent blood thinning medications).

Please stay very hydrated two days prior to your treatment.

Avoid alcohol two days prior to the treatment.

Here is a small list of some medications and vitamin supplements that are known to thin the blood.

St.John’s Wart, vitamin E, fish oil (or any oil based vitamin capsules), Aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication (such as Motrin, Advil, Alieve, etc), garlic supplements, ginger supplements, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, large amounts of green tea, any tinctures or extracts, “eye vitamins,” “skyn, hair and nail supplements.

Abstaining from taking these blood thinning medications and suppliments can diminish the incidence of bruising and bleeding.

POST BOTOX(R) / DYSPORT(R)

Avoid vigorous exercise for at least 48 hours.

Avoid excessive heat or cold temperature.

Keep head upright for 4-6 hours after injections.

Do not massage areas that were injected unless otherwise instructed.

Avoid touching the treated area within six hours following treatment.

After that, the area can be gently washed with cleanser and water but avoid using a Clarisonic type brush, sleeping eye mask, hat, headband for 7 days.

Until there is resolution of bruising, redness and swelling, avoid exposure of the treated area to intense heat for 7 days (ie. hot showers, steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi, hot tub, sun lamp, or sun bathing) or extreme cold weather for 2 days.

Makeup may be applied the next day.

If you have a history of cold sores, there is a risk of recurrence. You can take a special medicine to minimize recurrence from you primary care provider.

If bruising occurs, you may gently apply one cube of ice (using a tissue as a barrier).
